Team Building and corporate activities will help corporate events grow by 3.5% in Spain this year, the biggest growth in this sector at the European level.

And that's not all — the number of attendees at these corporate events is also expected to grow, along with higher budgets for them.

This is one of the conclusions drawn from the 2019 Global Meetings & Events Forecast study carried out by American Express Global Business Travel's Meetings & Events division.

The results confirm a recovery of business activity and the industry worldwide, after nearly a decade of recession. This upturn will translate, in 2019, into bigger budgets for corporate events, and a stronger commitment to Team Building and corporate activities — an investment that directly boosts profitability.

This increase in the number of corporate events, attendees and budgets won't be quite as strong in cases involving flights and hotel stays, due to rising prices in these areas.

2019 corporate event trends

As for the type of corporate events that will set the trend, this year they'll focus on two aspects:

1. Technology: the user experience will improve through the use of technology, drawing on the many possibilities and applications of artificial intelligence, virtual reality and biometrics.
2. Data protection: The rollout of the European data protection regulation (GDPR) will be very prominent.
3. Team Building. Internal events and Team Building will be the main focus for all kinds of companies, large and small, accounting for as much as 30% of all corporate events in Spain, France and the UK.

In terms of the number of corporate events, the European city hosting the most corporate events next year will be London, closely followed by Barcelona (second place) and Madrid (fifth place).
