Corporate Dynamics

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts"

This idea was coined by Gestalt psychology, and it helps us understand the synergy created when a team works in sync, motivated and committed to reaching shared goals. The result of this collective effort is far greater than, for example, if each member had worked separately and their individual achievements were simply added together.

A team that works united and in harmony manages to bring out the best in each of its members, generating greater motivation and ambition, and turning personal goals into collective aspirations pursued with a conviction and commitment that are hard to shake.

Teamwork, together with flexibility and innovation, are the best weapons a company has today to face today's business landscape.

The circumstances imposed by Covid made clear to every work team the need to be prepared for unexpected scenarios.

Knowing how to react and improvise efficient, functional solutions is today, more than ever, a fundamental necessity to break through in a competitive market.

Developing these skills brings benefits in productivity and the work environment, letting teams perform with authority, resolve and comfort in new, changing situations that require creative, innovative responses.

But not every team achieves this level of connection easily, even when trying hard and passionately, and that's why we want to help you and give you a little push to transform your group of employees into a well-oiled engine that runs like a Ferrari's.

Building healthy spaces

Many elements come into play when it comes to achieving good levels of productivity. The most important thing is to understand that employees are a company's best investment and that all the power to transform and grow it lies within them. That's why it's necessary to create a healthy, attractive, motivating work environment that encourages every person to do their job as well as possible, that fosters healthy, enriching bonds between people, and a deep identification with the company's brand.

Promoting spaces where people feel good, safe and calm, where interpersonal relationships are important and positive, guarantees a welcoming work environment conducive to proactive, efficient and committed performance.

Human groups are complex, since each member has their own personality, with particular strengths and traits that make them react to stimuli differently from others. A team's great task is knowing how to bring out the best in each of its members, valuing their contribution, recognising their personal traits and encouraging them to keep improving.

Communication is key

Communication is a fundamental tool for building united, efficient work teams.

Most of the big problems that can arise in a work environment stem from communication failures. From the moment someone gives information or an instruction and isn't truly clear in doing so, or fails to convey their ideas, small gaps and doubts start to form that, if not addressed consistently and naturally, will likely end up affecting everyone involved's work. Likewise, when differences of opinion arise during problem-solving moments, communication plays an essential role in calmly and honestly conveying different points of view, in order to reach agreements and solutions that involve and represent the whole work team.

Every area that makes up a human group's processes and relationships is crossed by communication and its variables, which is why practising it is an opportunity to turn it into a constructive, positive tool that will substantially help resolve any issue that arises within a work team, as well as strengthen and refine its collaborative spirit.

Group dynamics

Group dynamics are a great tool for starting to dig deeper into the different aspects you want to improve and strengthen in your work team.

Every activity works like a procedure, in which, in a systematic way, roles are set, responsibilities assigned, and relationships built around clear, shared goals. Given this setup, and in a more or less natural way, different teams start to develop strategies, build organisational structures, and solve problems autonomously and proactively.

Leadership emerges automatically, and rules of coexistence take shape that boost how each team functions.

Every activity is focused on developing essential tools such as communication, adaptability and innovation, in order to facilitate, improve and deepen dialogue, while also contributing to better conflict-resolution processes, promoting a constructive, generous perspective.

This type of activity is also useful because it lets each person calmly and clearly identify their own strengths, which they can use to contribute to group work.

The most efficient work team is one that, on one hand, knows how to make the most of each of its members, drawing out their best without pigeonholing them or limiting their individual potential, while, on the other hand, its members take responsibility for their own contribution and role.

Some ideas to surprise your team

To decide which exercise to run, you first need to determine which goals you want to boost within your team. Once that's clear, you can choose the activity best suited to working towards those goals.

Examples of corporate dynamics

Role-play

This game is especially useful for observing participants' communication and negotiation skills in adverse or unexpected circumstances. To run the activity, participants are split into pairs, and each pair is given a situation to resolve.

Trust games

Trust is essential for a work team to function, since it helps create a calm work environment based on respect, focusing all energy on group efficiency to achieve planned goals. An example of this type of dynamic could be the following: after forming several pairs that ideally aren't too close, to make the most of the exercise, a series of small items (tokens, medals, anything) are scattered around the office for the pairs to collect. One member of each pair is blindfolded, and their partner guides them to collect the scattered items one by one throughout the office, avoiding bumping into other pairs and obstacles that are part of the furniture.

One Word

Reflection and self-awareness are important when working with others, since they help us understand what we project, what we want to project, and the real differences between those two things. An example dynamic: Staff are randomly split into teams of around 4 people.

Each team has a few minutes to jointly think of a single word that, from their point of view, identifies some aspect of the company, such as a value, its mission, its corporate spirit, etc.

Then there's a group discussion, where a spokesperson from each group shares and explains the chosen word to the other groups. This activity is a chance to notice how each person understands and experiences their own reality within the company, and their role in it, differently. On one hand, it helps us align our criteria and vision of what we want to be as a company, and on the other, it helps us recognise and value other opinions and points of view, enriching dialogue and reflection.

The Lie

For this activity, participants need to be split into groups of 4 people, or it can also be run as one large group. Each participant must write 4 statements about themselves on a piece of paper, 3 of which are true and 1 a lie. The idea is for each person to think carefully about each statement so it's genuinely hard to figure out which is false.

Then, everyone together (or by group, if that's the format) takes turns reading each person's statements, opening the floor for debate to guess which one is false. What matters is reaching an agreement on which statement is false for each person — each person will share their view on the statements and why they think one or another is a lie. This fosters dialogue, reflection and problem-solving.

At the end, each person reveals which statement was false, solving the mystery.

The Similarities

This is a simple, quick dynamic that helps strengthen empathy, unity and communication, while also promoting patience and respect.

The group is split into pairs or trios. Each trio or pair must talk to one another about what they like about their job and their life outside it, sharing their hobbies, pastimes and a bit about their personal life.

They'll instantly see common ground emerging between the members of these small groups — they'll realise they have a lot in common, or perhaps not a lot, but at least one or two shared interests, hobbies and/or skills, both at work and in their life outside it.

This simple activity helps build bonds and bridges of communication and connection between colleagues, promoting camaraderie and unity, boosting and complementing skills, which will undoubtedly contribute to a healthier, more efficient work environment.

Small efforts can start to make a big difference. Every team can end up functioning as a cohesive, powerful and productive instrument — you just need to know which levers to pull to fine-tune and strengthen its progress. Count on us to start this journey of growth and self-discovery. At Kaizen, we build all these dynamics into fun Team Building activities, which, besides making the most of all their benefits, will motivate your team and help them feel more united to the group and the company.
