Building group cohesion

Today we explain how relationships between colleagues can improve through teamwork activities that build group cohesion. From adulthood onward, we spend roughly half our lives at our workplace. Whether we like it or not, that turns the company we work for into our second home, and the colleagues we work with into our second family.

And, as in every family, relationships can get a bit tense. To fix this, the best approach is to turn to teamwork activities that build group cohesion. Let's recognise the stereotypes you might find in different work teams, based on their productivity and colleague relationships, so you can choose the most suitable cohesion-building activities.

The "Hippies"

This group stands out for the great vibe among colleagues. There's never a serious problem, and employee wellbeing is fairly high. The downside of this team is it's not very productive.

The "Killers".

A highly competitive, even toxic group. The bad vibes between colleagues make working in this environment stressful, and you're constantly under pressure. They're very productive.

The "Lost Ones".

This group is a genuine disaster, since they're neither productive nor do they get along. With them, any company is doomed to fail.

The "Ideal" team.

This group is every company's dream. Relationships between colleagues are good, and there's healthy competition, which makes them highly productive.

Some companies settle for a group of Killers, without realising how unreliable this group is in the long run. No one can handle the tension forever, and Killers are prone to sick leave from depression and a constant exodus of already-trained, competent employees leaving in search of a better work environment.

How can a company move away from the "Killer" stereotype and closer to the "Ideal" one? It's not very effective for the boss to impose peace during a biannual meeting or use threats to keep tensions under control. Teamwork activities get better results, like those offered by Kaizen Team Building.

Whether through a contest, a game that can only be won by working as a team, or a celebration where colleagues learn something new together, these activities greatly boost staff morale and help smooth over rough edges and strengthen bonds between colleagues, thereby creating a lasting, productive group: the Ideal team.
