Team Building Madrid: Butterfly Effect, a Highly Creative Challenge

Butterfly Effect, a highly creative challenge

Indoor activities are a perfect option year-round, since they don't depend on the weather and fit any date without restrictions. One of Kaizen's most popular Team Building Madrid activities is Butterfly Effect, a fun, ingenious challenge based on Rube Goldberg machines, which boosts problem-solving and creativity.

From simple to complex

The butterfly effect refers to how a small, simple action can end up bringing about a huge change through a long, unexpected process: the simple flap of a butterfly's wings in Hong Kong can end up generating a storm in New York, on the other side of the planet.

With this idea in mind, Kaizen has designed one of the most ingenious and practical Team Building Madrid activities, boosting any company's human potential.

How can you experiment with the butterfly effect? Very simple (or very complex, depending on how you look at it): with a Rube Goldberg machine.

Rube Goldberg machines

Rube Goldberg machines are devices that achieve very simple things through extraordinarily complex mechanisms, via a chain reaction. For example: cracking an egg. Many films and TV shows reference this type of machine. The famous Spanish show El Hormiguero uses them quite often in its Butterfly Effect segment, but we have much older examples too: the famous "TBO inventions" built by Professor Franz of Copenhagen were also devices very similar to Rube Goldberg machines.

There are true fans of this type of machine, and since 1987, Rube Goldberg machine contests have been held worldwide, testing the ingenuity and creativity of the most brilliant minds.

Kaizen's "machine"

In our activity, participants compete in several teams to build a chain-reaction circuit using 25 everyday objects, following a theme. For example: a machine to catch mice. Starting with the cheese, the team must use all the items provided to design a chain-reaction or domino-effect circuit that ends with catching the (stuffed) mouse.

The team that manages to catch the mouse thanks to a perfectly coordinated circuit wins.

Benefits of the Butterfly Effect activity

The Butterfly Effect activity puts the team's creative potential to the test, along with their ability to cooperate and solve problems. When designing the circuit, they need to develop the ability to anticipate, so that starting from an initial element, it triggers a series of well-connected events culminating in the desired reaction.

Kaizen takes care of every detail so it's an unforgettable, engaging activity for your team.

Companies that have taken part in this Team Building initiative have achieved improved skills such as communication, creativity, leadership, motivation and teamwork.

On an individual level, participants manage to spark their ingenuity and creativity, and have a great time with their colleagues, greatly fostering a sense of belonging to the company.
